Teen accused of tagging church buildings with 'smile'

A teen has been arrested on suspicion that he spray-painted the word ?smile? on buildings belonging to a Northwest Side church, causing an estimated $5,200 in damage.

Sean Patrick Siemens, 17, was arrested Wednesday on a state jail felony charge of graffiti. He's been released on $5,000 bail.

Police said a youth was seen on surveillance footage spray-painting the word ?smile? on a red wooden shed and a church that's under construction on the grounds of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, near Loop 1604 and Hausman Road.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, high school police officers helped authorities identify the teen from the footage.

Police said Siemens submitted a written confession to school administrators and verbally confessed to officers.
