Google Exact Match Domain Update | Internet Marketing Resources ...

Google released yet another update that influenced many web sites in a negative way. This update send many websites to the Google abyss, including one of my own that I have been nurturing for quite some time. To make matters worse, a lot of sites are still recovering from the Panda and Penguin updates only to be hit once again. This time around, it feels personal and I feel sorry for all the webmasters who have to endure yet another ?attack? from Google.

Most sites were hit on September 30. Basically, Google decided to wipe out any website that uses long tail keywords. The update was supposedly designed to eliminate all the ?low quality? sites that uses an EMD to improve their rankings for a certain keyword.

EMD?s have historically been popular because it was easier to rank for long tail keywords by finding a profitable keyword phrase and registering a domain with the keyword name. All that used to remain was for you to build content and add some backlinks until you appeared on the first page of Google.

It is said that this update is not a penalty, but rather, the value that Google used to give to EMD?s has decreased. ?The bottom line is this ? if your site achieved its rankings mostly because of an EMD, then the chances are good that your site will lose its rankings. However, if your rankings are based upon popularity and social signals as well good white hat link building and marketing, you should be safe. The unfortunate nature of this update is that there will be collateral damage, meaning that you might be affected even if though you were not supposed to be.

What can you do ?

The best recommendation is to keep on adding content to your sites. You will never be punished by Google for this as long as you keep your content unique and valuable to your visitors.

Social signals are now more important than ever and if you have not yet build a solid presence with Twitter, Facebook and Google+, then now is the time to do so.

The key lesson here is that you should never rely on Google alone for your income. I would go so far as to say that ideally you should move your business away from Google as much as possible. The algorithm changes will never stop and you will always be worried about the next update even if you play by the rules! Rather investigate alternative methods for creating traffic that you can rely on. ?Of course, if your plan is to build a big authority site which is recognizable by its brand, Google is still the way to go.

Another way to get traffic is to find out where your niche market hangs out. Almost all niches have forums or some sort of community where like minded people come together. By contributing actively in these communities, you can brand yourself as an expert and gain the trust of the community ? they are all potential customers.

You have heard this before ? the money is in the list. Nobody can take the list away from you and it is never too late to start one. There are a few good auto-responders ?that you can use to build your lists and to send out your newsletters. The two most popular ones are Aweber and Getresponse.

It is my prediction that the use of paid traffic will increase exponentially as site owners come to the realization that it is indeed bad for business to rely on organic traffic alone. ?Advertising agencies will most like increase their revenue by a substantial amount and it might even become the new business model of the day. By using PPC, you can immediately increase traffic to your site and increase your revenue. Many people don?t use PPC yet either because they don?t know how it works or because of negative feedback from people who has lost money by implementing this paid strategy. Mark Ling has an exellent course called Affilobluebrint which will teach you not only how to use PPC , but also everything you need to know as an affiliate marketer.

All that is left to say now is to wish you good luck in your internet marketing ventures and of course ? NEVER GIVE UP!
