Fall Preview Weekend to Bring Students and Parents to Campus

?

?Fall Preview at HSU is an exciting event for prospective students and their parents to get a closer look at HSU and what is offered in campus life as well as academic opportunities,? says Jim Jones, associate vice president for Enrollment Services.

Jones and his staff have been eagerly preparing for around 80 students who will visit the campus Saturday, October 27, 2012, for the first of two campus previews to be held this academic year.?

The students represent areas across Texas, with the majority coming from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. A few are from out-of-state. Others are from right here in the Big Country area.

There are a few high school juniors, but most of the students are seniors who expect to graduate in May of 2013 and are in the process of narrowing down the colleges and universities they are interested in attending.

While on campus, students will learn more about their intended area of study and get the scoop on the campus from current students. Diana Salinas, in the HSU admissions office, says the Get the Scoop session is a great activity where students hear current students talk about their experiences at HSU.

Counting parents, the Fall Preview weekend will bring about 220 new faces to the campus. Parents will have a chance to learn about admissions and financial aid opportunities in the Informational Session and they may attend the Campus Connection Fair with their sons and daughters as they look at what else campus life has to offer other than academics.

Prospective students and their parents will get a chance to sample a meal in the cafeteria and participants can take a campus tour and attend the HSU Cowboys football game.

Jones says the main thing is, ?Fall Preview lets students experience the campus with other students who are like themselves. They get to see what HSU is really like from the eyes of current students and the faculty and staff.?

Jones says most students have registered but walk-ins are welcome. The day starts off at 8:00 a.m. in the Dyess Welcome Center with check-in and a light breakfast. Students and parents will attend the first session at 8:30 a.m. in the Johnson Building.

The Academic Open House starts at 9 a.m. (in various locations) so students and parents can visit with deans and faculty in their areas of interest.
