Surrey?s Jamie Oleksiew struggled to a 3-over 74 on Friday but still had plenty of wiggle room in capturing the 2013 B.C. junior girls? championship at Belmont Golf Course in Langley.
Her 4-under 280 total (71-69-66-74) was still two shots better than Alix Kong of West Vancouver, who made a charge with a 3-under 68. It wasn?t enough, leaving her with rounds of 71-74-69-68 for second place.
Victoria?s Naomi Ko was third, bouncing back from a 74 on Thursday with a 1-under 70 in the final round of the 72-hole event. Her 72-70-74-70 rounds allowed the 15-year-old member of the national development team to grasp the third and final position on Team B.C.
The three will now compete at the Royale Cup Canadian junior championship slated for July 30-Aug. 2 in Pickering, Ont.
Ko finished six strokes better than Kelowna?s Madison Kapchinsky (72-77-74-69).
?Naomi and Alex are really good players, so I think we have a really good chance of winning at the Canadians,? Oleksiew told B.C. Golf officials.
Nanaimo?s Shirin Anjarwalla (73-76-77-77) finished tied for 10th.
At the junior boys? championship at Revelstoke, Kimberley?s Jared Dutoit tied the course record of 7-under 65 and then outlasted Coquitlam?s Kevin Vigna and Jordan Lu of Vancouver in a playoff.
The three were tied at 11-under 277.??
Zach Anderson of Nanaimo finished tied for fourth after a final-round 67 gave him a 283 total (72-73-71-67). Victoria?s Connor Gann (77-73-70-73) was tied for 13th.
