Take Action. Earn Points. See Impact.?
New York, May 2, 2013 ? The Global Poverty Project (GPP), today announced the Global Citizen Tickets Initiative, a new program designed to incentivize social activism with concert tickets. Music fans can take a variety of social actions ranging from signing petitions to calling their representatives, to earn points they can use to win free tickets to concerts. Supported by an incredible, genre-breaking group of artists and a renowned committee of music industry luminaries, the avant-garde effort will engage thousands to take actions and amplify the issues related to extreme poverty, including: polio, malaria, women?s empowerment, education, and more. Global Citizen is an innovative online platform and mobile application. To participate, music fans and activists alike can register at globalcitizen.org/tickets today, where they can earn points for each action they take, from sharing a video on Facebook to signing a petition, which they can use to win free concert tickets.
The Global Citizen Tickets Initiative was the brainchild of Pearl Jam Manager, Kelly Curtis and The Global Poverty Project CEO, Hugh Evans.? Kelly Curtis commented, ?I?ve always been intrigued by smart ideas that can be scaled in a big way to make it simple and rewarding for people to do good work in the world. The Global Citizen Tickets Initiative is exactly that.?
?Pearl Jam is very grateful to be part of such an innovative and generous group of artists and music business leaders participating in this project. We are particularly thankful to our manager Kelly Curtis for spearheading this thoughtful strategy. It reflects the DNA of our band and business, and expands it to respond to some of the greatest inequities and challenges facing humanity,? said Stone Gossard, of Pearl Jam.
The Global Citizen Tickets Initiative builds on the success and momentum of The Global Poverty Project?s highly acclaimed Global Citizen Festival in New York?s Central Park in 2012,? featuring Neil Young with Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Band of Horses and K?Naan. 60,000 people earned tickets to that show by participating in specific activism such as signing petitions and sharing information using the same digital platform and technology that will be employed for this new Initiative.
Hugh Evans, CEO of The GPP, said, ?We know that musicians excite and motivate people to take action. We feel incredibly fortunate to collaborate with the world?s best musicians to support our vision of a world without extreme poverty, which is the through line of the eight biggest global challenges as defined by the United Nations in 2001 (http://bit.ly/2YFj1).?
A historic committee of music industry leaders ? including managers, agents, promoters, and artists ? came together to make the Global Citizen Tickets Initiative a reality. Their goal was to help create a system that leveled the playing field for access to tickets to live entertainment, making it possible to earn points by doing good works for a chance to win tickets as an alternative to purchasing them.
The Global Citizen Tickets Initiative Committee members include: Kelly Curtis, Pearl Jam Manager; Michele Anthony, Chairwoman of the Global Citizen Tickets Initiative, 7H Entertainment; Mark Campana, Live Nation; Judy McGrath; Elliot Groffman, Carroll, Guido & Groffman, LLP; Sara Newkirk, WME Entertainment; Jane Rosenthal, Tribeca Film Festival; Marsha Vlasic, ICM Partners; Michele Bernstein, WME Entertainment; Marc Geiger, WME Entertainment; Rob Light, CAA Entertainment; Brian Murphy, Goldenvoice; Aaron D.
