Cloherty Packing Co.?makers of Dod??ger Stadium?s famed ?Dodger Dogs? frankfurters?has agreed to settle federal charges it discriminated against women at its Los Angeles plant.
The U.S. Department of Labor?s Office of Federal Contract Com??pli??ance Programs (OFCCP) investigated the packing company?s hiring practices from 2007 through 2009 and determined that it systematically refused to hire women, most of whom were Latina, for laborer positions. The OFCCP has labor-law compliance authority over Cloherty because its parent company, Minnesota-based Hormel Foods, is contractor to the federal government.
Under the settlement, Cloherty will pay $439,538 in back wages, including interest, to 1,988 qualified but re??jected female job applicants. It must also offer 700 jobs to affected women as positions become available.
