Burlington?s newest recreation facility in Alton was designed to fit the needs of the elite sport community located in the greater Toronto area. It is equipped with amenities to support the regional and provincial tournament play of its primary target groups: basketball, volleyball, badminton and disabled sports. The 212,795 square-foot building is a shared facility between the Halton District School Board, the Burlington Public Library and the City of Burlington, and it features a three-storey public high school, a public library and a recreation facility.
The high school, with expected yearly attendance of 1,500 students, is equipped with four 38-foot-high competitive-sized gymnasiums, a 200-seat auditorium, art rooms, a lit artificial sports field and an eight-lane running track. The library is a one-floor, 11,840 square-foot space serving both the students of the high school and the community. The facility boasts four 40-foot-high competitive-size gymnasiums, change rooms, a concession area, two multi-purpose rooms, a small exclusive use space, an administrative area, a meeting room and a sport square designed for award ceremonies.? The centre will be like no other; in fact, it is the only facility with eight competition-sized double gyms west of Toronto in the Greater Toronto Area.
Norton Park is located opposite to Tim Dobbie Drive, directly facing the Recreation Facility in Alton and it features two artificial turf sports fields, a water feature, an outdoor multi-use sports court, a playground, a skate park, an open air pavilion and washroom facilities, all together contributing to the campus atmosphere of the Alton community.
